Trump Needs to be Prosecuted for Jan 6th

Trump Attorney: Prosecuting Trump for Jan 6th Not in the “best interests of the country”

When CNN spoke to several attorneys regarding Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony before the Jan. 6th Committee, one of those attorneys was Ty Cobb who represented Trump in the Mueller investigation.

While Cobb believes Trump definitely committed crimes, he doesn’t believe he should be prosecuted for them. From CNN:

Ty Cobb doesn't think Trump should be tried for the insurrection“Here there are many damning facts,” said Cobb, who pointed to Hutchinson’s testimony that Trump knew his supporters were armed on January 6, riled them up, then appeared to concur with them chanting to hang the vice president as worthy of prosecutors’ attention. If that “isn’t insurrection, I don’t know what is,” he said Wednesday.

Now, I’m not sure exactly what Mr. Cobb considers enough of a crime to put an ex-President in jail but, I guess this ain’t it:

“I am not convinced prosecuting Trump is in the best interests of the country in the long term”

Jan 6th rioters erected a noose

Donald Trump agreed with his minions that Pence should have been hung.

If anyone EVER deserved jail for the Jan 6th insurrection, it is Donald Trump. Trump began lying to his supporters even before the 2020 election, and to this day has not stopped beating the “stolen election” drum. Elected Republicans echoed the lie. GOP-led states conducted multiple recounts looking for evidence, they found none. Almost two years later many Republicans are still perpetuating these falsehoods. His voting base believed Donald Trump. They answered his call to stop the certification of the election, resulting in the death of one supporter. Trump knew they were committing crimes; he watched it all unfold within the security of the White House.

Perhaps the best evidence that Trump knowingly committed crimes himself? Fox “News” is refusing to air the Jan 6th hearings. Thankfully, many of their viewers are watching the hearings anyway.

What About the Poor Saps that Took Part in the Insurrection?

As for those who foolishly believed Trump and went to the Capitol on Jan 6th, according to Insider:

… at least 874 people have been arrested and charged with crimes. … [Insider also provides] … the names, charges, links to court documents, and links to additional stories of all the people charged so far. We’re keeping it updated as the Department of Justice releases more names and info.

Donald Trump has not visited them or offered to help pay for attorneys for them. Why should his voters pay for this crime against America but not Donald Trump himself? Trump has gotten away with mowing down “the little guy” his entire life. He even allegedly insulted his supporters as they rioted in the Capitol:

Trump is quoted as having said: “This looks terrible. This is really bad. Who are these people? These aren’t our people, these idiots with these outfits…”

Trump is also reported to have referred to his supporters as “the great unwashed”…

Trump is Not the Only One Who Should Face the Consequences

Additional players in this assault on the Constitution included members of Congress and state legislators, they should see jail time too.

This insurrection was fueled by a GOP Congress that cut its own backbone out for Donald Trump to mount on his wall. They remain silent to this dayon perhaps the greatest assault on our democracy They do not deserve to be anywhere near government.

Peggy Noonan’s Warped Idea of Love of Country

In a recent Wall Street Journal column, Peggy Noonan “cuts the baby in half” so to speak. On one hand, she admits Donald Trump is not fit to be President. On the other, possibly fearing “Trumpers” wrath, she fawns:

Peggy NoonanI start with the obvious. I never meet Americans who love America more than Trump people do. They really love it—its history, what it means in the world, what it’s done. It has not always been a fully thought-through love but it’s generally fully felt, and at a time when not everybody bothers to feel such allegiance and gratitude it is admirable.

Ms. Noonan attempts to straddle the line between Right-Wing talking points and coddling the most dangerous groups in America. It’s insulting. These people call themselves Patriots, they’re not. They’re violent Nationalists, the antithesis of loving America.

Love of country isn’t flag patches on every piece of clothing you own or giant flags on your pickup truck.

Love of country isn’t calling for the Vice President of the United States to be hanged.

Love of country isn’t putting your fellow citizens at risk over a minor inconvenience.

Love of country isn’t threatening elected representatives and their families with death.

Love of country isn’t blind hatred of Americans who don’t look or think like you.

“Trumpers” have always longed for a country that never was and fantasized about a country that hopefully never will be. They continue to follow Trump blindly as he takes their money and laughs all the way to the bank. They refuse to entertain the idea that they’ve been suckered even as the pile of evidence grows higher.

For this reason, the right’s “love of country” die-hards will continue to support him likely claiming fraud against their own party should he lose the primary. By electing Trump and continuing “the big lie” Republicans have increased the number of  “angry white guys” Lindsey Graham longed for. The genie’s out of the bottle, there’s no going back.

Victim’s Family Calls For 25th Amendment

The 25th Amendment Won’t Fix Everything

Rosanne Boyland, a resident of Kennesaw, Georgia, was one of those who died during Wednesday’s riot at the Capitol. Brother-in-law Justin Cave called for the 25th Amendment in a recent interview:

“It is my own personal belief that the President’s words and rhetoric incited a riot last night that killed four of his biggest fans and I believe that we should invoke the 25th amendment.”

I’m saddened by the deaths of all five individuals at Wednesday’s riot. I’m saddened that so many people could believe so many lies. I’m saddened that it was so easy to whip the crowd into a mob.

the 25th amendment won't stop the mob

Ms. Boyland made a decision to travel to the capital as did the others. We’ve now seen what conspiracy theories and denying facts can bring about. Yes, the guy in the White House incited it, but every individual made a conscious choice to join the mob or not. That decision is what killed Ms. Boyland.

Meanwhile, Trump watched the riot from his safe space, denigrating his supporters as “low class” and “white trash“. That vile, despicable excuse for a human being is what Roseanne Boyland gave her life for. That’s the saddest thing of all.

Nunes’s Medal of Freedom Renders the Award Meaningless

Trump Destroys An American Honor

Neither honor nor tradition has ever meant squat to Donald Trump. Now, in his childish, petty quest to burn things down on his way out, he’s decided to trash the Medal of Freedom. That medal, according to White House.gov is (my emphasis):

…the Nation’s highest civilian honor. It is awarded by the President of the United States to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.

medal of freedom imageTrump has decided to award this medal to, of all people, Devin Nunes. Why not give it to a circus clown? But wait, he may come close. It’s reported that Trump will hand one to Jim Jordan, too. These choices are an insult to the integrity of the award, and a slap in the face to the people who were worthy of it.

It’s true that Nunes and Jordan have made “exceptional contributions” to Trump’s private endeavors, but that’s the polar opposite of America’s national interests as it relates to this medal and these jokers.

Donald Trump is so proud of his choice of Nunes, he awarded the medal to him in private Monday. Here’s the ridiculous testimonial:

trump's Nunes bullshitAll Nunes has ever done is to help Trump practically destroy this country. This sham of an award shits all over everything America stands for.

Now YOU’RE Paying For Corporate America’s Meals

When the Hell is Enough Enough?

Republicans fought long and hard to get the 35% statutory corporate tax rate lowered. They claimed it made U.S. companies less competitive than their foreign counterparts. At the same time, Republicans KNEW that corporate effective tax rates averaged much less.

In 2016, the Senate Budget Committee’s Ranking Member received a report from the GAO on effective tax rates. The GAO report, using tax years 2006-2012, found:

cash and cigarsThe statutory tax rate on net corporate income ranges from 15 to 35 percent, depending on the amount of income earned. For tax years 2008 to 2012, profitable large U.S. corporations paid, on average, U.S. federal income taxes amounting to about 14 percent of the pretax net income that they reported in their financial statements (for those entities included in their tax returns). When foreign and state and local income taxes are included, the average ETR across all of those years increases to just over 22 percent.

Insanity is… well, you know.

Even so, the GOP majority got their way in 2017, rewarding those big-money donors at the expense of American taxpayers. In 2019, a report from ITEP (Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy), Corporate Tax Avoidance in the First Year of the Trump Tax Law found:

TCJAWhen drafting the tax law, lawmakers could have eliminated special breaks and loopholes in the corporate tax to offset the cost of reducing the statutory rate. Instead, the new law introduced many new breaks and loopholes, though it eliminated some old ones.

Key Findings:

pigs at the troughThe 379 profitable corporations identified in this study paid an effective federal income tax rate of 11.3 percent on their 2018 income, slightly more than half the statutory 21 percent tax rate.

91 corporations did not pay federal income taxes on their 2018 U.S. income. These corporations include Amazon, Chevron, Halliburton and IBM. An ITEP study released in April 2019 examined 2018 Fortune 500 filings released to date and found 60 companies paid zero in federal income taxes. Now, all companies have released their 2018 financial filings, and this report reflects that.

Another 56 companies paid effective tax rates between 0 percent and 5 percent on their 2018 income. Their average effective tax rate was 2.2 percent.

Now, instead of the mere 27 companies paying no income taxes in 2015, we’ve jumped to at least 91 companies avoiding taxes in 2018.

Feeding Corporate Pigs

Fast Forward to 2020. A raging pandemic, over 300,000 U.S. deaths, huge job losses, people facing evictions or losing their homes, and THIS is what Trump and Republicans insisted be part of the latest COVID Relief Plan:

feeding corporate pigsCorporations will now be able to deduct 100% of the cost of “business meals”.

Paying 50% of their meals was obviously too burdensome, so Americans will pay even more now to prop up our so-called “self-made” corporate Americans. We already subsidize their

Stop Molly-Coddling the Obese Baby in the White House

Donald Trump refuses to admit that he lost the election and Republicans are molly-coddling him like theTrumpscreaming obese baby he is. To avoid the risk of losing favor, everybody is offering him emotional rattles to play with until he stops crying and starts packing his things.

santorumRick Santorum (yes, he’s still around):  “He’s just found out that he’s probably not going to be the president of the United States anymore. This is a very emotional time, give people space to work through this.”

fleischerAri Fleischer: The “decent thing to do is let the president himself take the time he wants to absorb this.”

CNN: Almost everyone around the President — members of his family, senior staffers and outside advisers — believe he will accept defeat and leave the White House in January even if he never publicly acknowledges Biden’s win.

mcenanyKayleigh McEnany, On whether Trump would attend Biden’s inauguration: “President Trump believes he will be President Trump, have a second term. I think the president will attend his own inauguration

mcconnell2Mitch McConnell: “Let’s not have any lectures, no lectures, about how the president should immediately, cheerfully accept preliminary election results.”

Laura Ingraham: “Now, losing, especially when you believe the process wasn’t fair, it’s a gut punch. And ingrahamI’m not conceding anything tonight, by the way, but, losing, if that’s what happens, it’s awful.

Gutfeld

Greg Gutless Gutfeld says of Trump: “He redefined the party, because he spoke for people that both the Democrats and the Republicans forgot about. So I think, I think we’re gonna have a HELL of a lot of fun. We’re gonna have two presidents! We’re gonna have two presidents!” (Right. Outa. His. Ass.)

HannitySean Hannity: “… every American should be angry, outraged and worried and concerned about what happened in the election and the lead-up to the election.”

(Trump talking points)

CarlsonPerpetually befuddled looking Tucker Carlson claims: the “outcome of our presidential election was seized from the hands of voters”. (This is especially ridiculous considering 2020 had the highest voter turnout percentage since 1900.)

Even Trump’s national security adviser, Robert O’Brien, can’t man-up enough to face his boss head-on. As the Daily Beast reported, O’Brien has:

O'Brien…pushed national security officials to publicly embrace the absurd Trump message that the election has not been certified and that there are still legal battles playing out across the country that could turn in the president’s favor.

“If you even mention Biden’s name… that’s a no-go, you’d be fired,” one national security official said.

This molly-coddling has gone on long enough. DONALD TRUMP LOST. It doesn’t matter if he cries, sucks his thumb, stomps his feet, or stays in bed hiding under the covers all day, HE STILL LOST. Somebody in that party of impotent cowards needs to find the brass to tell him it’s over.

Eric Trump Needs to Get Himself Some Big Boy Pants

trump littlePoor little Eric Trump has the sadz because more than half of voters loathe dislike his Daddy. Here he is, whining to who else but Sean My-Lips-Are-Permantly-Attached-To-Donald-Trump’s-Ass Hannity:

“I’ve never seen hatred like this. To me, they’re not even people. It’s so, so sad. Morality’s just gone, morals have flown out the window and we deserve so much better than this as a country.”

You read that right; the son of a lying, serial-adultering, small-business-screwing, sexist, p—y-grabbing, charity-scamming, phony-school-running, PIG, is scolding Americans for THEIR lack of morality.

GET SOME BIG BOY PANTS, SON!

Politics is messy. Grow up and accept the fact that Dear Old Dad is not  admired, at home or abroad, unless one is a Communist, Nazi, Tiny Dictator, member of the American Taliban, or have a two digit IQ.

Frankly, I’d worry about your own family’s morality before you start throwing stones… just sayin’.

Should Bored Little Rich Boys Engage In U.S. Foreign Policy?

 As Politico reported:

Gen. H.R. McMaster

National Security Advisor Gen. H.R. McMaster said he’s “not concerned” following reports that President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner may have discussed setting up diplomatic backchannels to Moscow during the presidential transition. McMaster told American reporters traveling with Trump at the G7 summit in Sicily that the U.S. frequently sets up backchannels to countries for discreet communications. “We have backchannel communications with a number of countries,” McMaster said in response to questions. “What that allows you to do is communicate in a discreet manner so I’m not concerned.”

U.S. OFFICIALS using “back-channels” is quite different than this punk playing spy games behind the government’s back.  Newsweek offered up a little more detail about Kushner’s possible intentions:

kushner

Trump’s son-in-law and senior aide Jared Kushner sought to establish a back channel with the Kremlin through its embassy in Washington, allegedly bypassing U.S. intelligence communications systems to discuss a quid-pro-quo to benefit Trump’s friends when the president lifted American sanctions on Russia…

secret agentThis know-nothing, bored little rich boy, with NOT A SHRED of  government, let alone U.S. foreign policy experience, shouldn’t be communicating with ANY foreign government, “back channel” or not.

Let him play Secret Agent with his kids… at home.

The Idiots and the Oddities, 4/23/17

Homer 2My weekly look at the Right Wing’s most ridiculous statements, unhinged characters, and all-around foolishness.

Let’s begin with our new U.S. Attorney General, Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III.  After Hawaii’s Federal Judge Derrick Watson blocked the Guy-Currently- Residing-in-the-White-House’s (GCRIWH) revised travel ban, Sessions said in an interview:

“We are confident that the president will prevail on appeal and particularly in the Supreme Court, if not the 9th Circuit… I really am amazed that a judge sitting on an island in the Pacific can issue an order that stops the president of the United States from what appears to be clearly his statutory and constitutional power.”

Now, I can be a bit of a nit-picker, but I think the U.S. Attorney General should have at least an elementary grasp of the law, maybe even the Constitution. One could write his ignorance off as a result of being raised in Alabama, rated 42nd in education nationally; problem is, Sessions actually voted to put Judge Watson on the bench.

From the same vein of ignorance of the Constitution comes this mixed up legal argument from lawyers for GCRIWH. They’re defending the orange one and his campaign in a legal action brought by some folks who were roughed up at one of his rallies:

scratching head

…protestors have their own First Amendment right to express dissenting views, but they have no right to do so as part of the campaign rally of the political candidates they oppose.

Yes, they believe the only place you can legally protest is at a rally for the candidate you agree with. As it turns out, one of the Deplorables doing the assaulting is also suing Trump. From News Corpse:

bamberger

Bamberger

On Monday one of the perpetrators, 75-year-old white nationalist Alvin Bamberger, responded with a lawsuit of his own. However, it was not directed at those accusing him of assault. It’s directed at Donald Trump.

According to the filing: “To the extent that Bamberger acted, he did so in response to – and inspired by – Trump and/or the Trump campaign’s urging to remove the protesters.

If Bamberger is adjudged liable to Nwanguma for his actions, Trump and/or the Trump campaign should be adjudged liable to Bamberger in an equal sum, because Trump and/or the Trump campaign urged and inspired Bamberger to act as he did.’

White Supremacist

Those big, tough, White Nationalists, so bold in a crowd of the like-minded. Get arrested and they start squealing like a pig, and crying like a baby: “Trump made me do it!”

On to North Carolina, where an investigation into voter fraud found one woman had “illegally cast a ballot on behalf of her deceased mother”. The News and Observer reports:

OMG

“If anything happens, you have my power of attorney and you be sure to vote for Donald Trump for me,” the mother allegedly told the daughter.

“[M]y actions were in no way intended to be fraudulent but were done during my grief and an effort to honor my mother’s last request,” the daughter explained to authorities.

The state decided not to press charges. Let’s all go out and add a vote on behalf of our deceased relatives in 2018, shall we? We can blame it on grief from our national embarrassment.

Tom Cotton, tells us we have no reason to think the Orange Idiot has anything to hide regarding his taxes:

It doesn’t take a lot of effort to find out where Donald Trump has connections overseas. He normally puts his name on buildings when he has them.

I’m guessing Tommy’s too young to recall Leona Helmsley who, despite having her name on numerous properties, was sentenced to prison for tax fraud. And she didn’t owe foreign governments millions.

Gisela Allen, conservative candidate for Scotland’s Glasgow Council, gave a stream of consciousness style answer to the Sunday Herald‘s question: “Why do you want to be a councillor?” Among several statements she made was this little gem:

monkey

“I am not anti-gay, but how can you call that a community? Sex life is everybody’s private affair. You do not come out and declare openly.

Do you think I am going all over the city and saying my idea of a sexually-attractive creature is a gorilla? When I go to a zoo and I see a gorilla my hormones go absolutely crazy. I find a gorilla very attractive.

I got nothin’. Except to point out that the only folks talking or thinking about sex with animals are always Conservatives.

Finally, the GCRIWH has embarrassed the country YET AGAIN. The UK’s Daily Mail reports:

Donald Trump has demanded a carriage procession down the Mall as an essential element for his state visit. The US President is said to have ‘made it clear’ that the gold-plated carriage procession to Buckingham Palace should go ahead, marking an unprecedented security operation.

The Metropolitan Police are already said to be preparing for the ‘biggest public order operation in several years’ as protests are expecting when President Trump visits the UK in October.

A source told the Times: ‘The vehicle which carries the president of the United States is a spectacular vehicle, designed to withstand a massive attack like a low-level rocket granade. ‘If he is in a golden coach being dragged up the Mall by a couple of horses, the risk factor is dramatically increased.’

Hell, I say let him ride!
