Victim’s Family Calls For 25th Amendment

The 25th Amendment Won’t Fix Everything

Rosanne Boyland, a resident of Kennesaw, Georgia, was one of those who died during Wednesday’s riot at the Capitol. Brother-in-law Justin Cave called for the 25th Amendment in a recent interview:

“It is my own personal belief that the President’s words and rhetoric incited a riot last night that killed four of his biggest fans and I believe that we should invoke the 25th amendment.”

I’m saddened by the deaths of all five individuals at Wednesday’s riot. I’m saddened that so many people could believe so many lies. I’m saddened that it was so easy to whip the crowd into a mob.

the 25th amendment won't stop the mob

Ms. Boyland made a decision to travel to the capital as did the others. We’ve now seen what conspiracy theories and denying facts can bring about. Yes, the guy in the White House incited it, but every individual made a conscious choice to join the mob or not. That decision is what killed Ms. Boyland.

Meanwhile, Trump watched the riot from his safe space, denigrating his supporters as “low class” and “white trash“. That vile, despicable excuse for a human being is what Roseanne Boyland gave her life for. That’s the saddest thing of all.

Nunes’s Medal of Freedom Renders the Award Meaningless

Trump Destroys An American Honor

Neither honor nor tradition has ever meant squat to Donald Trump. Now, in his childish, petty quest to burn things down on his way out, he’s decided to trash the Medal of Freedom. That medal, according to White House.gov is (my emphasis):

…the Nation’s highest civilian honor. It is awarded by the President of the United States to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.

medal of freedom imageTrump has decided to award this medal to, of all people, Devin Nunes. Why not give it to a circus clown? But wait, he may come close. It’s reported that Trump will hand one to Jim Jordan, too. These choices are an insult to the integrity of the award, and a slap in the face to the people who were worthy of it.

It’s true that Nunes and Jordan have made “exceptional contributions” to Trump’s private endeavors, but that’s the polar opposite of America’s national interests as it relates to this medal and these jokers.

Donald Trump is so proud of his choice of Nunes, he awarded the medal to him in private Monday. Here’s the ridiculous testimonial:

trump's Nunes bullshitAll Nunes has ever done is to help Trump practically destroy this country. This sham of an award shits all over everything America stands for.

Newt Gingrich Has No Moral Authority

Newt Gingrich Needs to Ride Off Into the Political Sunset

GingrichNewt Gingrich recently wrote an opinion piece in the right-wing Washington Times entitled: “Why I will not accept Joe Biden as president”. I could simply ask “Who gives a damn?” and end this post, but Newt Gingrich is rarely challenged on his bombastic bullshit. For those lucky folks who don’t know much about Gingrich, here are the cliff notes:

He’s an arrogant, self-important, self-delusional, self-aggrandizing, adulterous, finger-in-the-wind ex-politician. For more detail, read:

Politico’sThe Millennial’s Guide to Newt Gingrich

The Atlantic’s “How Newt Gingrich Destroyed American Politics“, and

Time’s “How Newt Gingrich Laid the Groundwork for Trump’s Republican Party

Now, back to Newt’s opinion piece; without a doubt, the most hypocritical statement comes at the very start:

Having spent more than four years watching the left #Resist President Donald Trump and focus entirely on undoing and undermining the 2016 election, it took me several days to understand the depth of my own feelings.

Carrying the torch of Republican hypocrisy

In case you didn’t know, Newt Gingrich was the star of the show at the 2009 Inauguration eve meeting to sabotage Obama’s presidency.  Robert Draper’s book, “Do Not Ask What Good We Do: Inside the U.S. House of Representatives” lists attendees as:

Republican Reps. Eric Cantor (Va.), Kevin McCarthy (Calif.), Paul Ryan (Wis.), Pete Sessions (Texas), Jeb Hensarling (Texas), Pete Hoekstra (Mich.) and Dan Lungren (Calif.), along with Republican Sens. Jim DeMint (S.C.), Jon Kyl (Ariz.), Tom Coburn (Okla.), John Ensign (Nev.) and Bob Corker (Tenn.). The non-lawmakers present included Newt Gingrich, … and Frank Luntz, the long-time Republican wordsmith.

As HuffPost’s Sam Stein reported:

For several hours in the Caucus Room (a high-end D.C. establishment), the book says they plotted out ways to not just win back political power, but to also put the brakes on Obama’s legislative platform. (…)

“You will remember this day,” Draper reports Newt Gingrich as saying on the way out. “You’ll remember this as the day the seeds of 2012 were sown.”

Sadly for Newt, the seeds dried up and Obama won re-election in 2012. Republicans never realized how much Democrats supported their President, and saw through GOP efforts to ensure the government failed. Just as they don’t realize even now that unlike their base, Democrats have always seen through Trump’s MAGA bullshit. Republicans elected a repulsive, vulgar, un-American, self-absorbed con-man who has done nothing but shit all over the dignity of the office and the reputation of the country. AND NEWT GINGRICH KNOWS THIS.

Covering for the Failure-in-Chief

Gingrich continues:

” …Democrat-led COVID-19 policies have enriched the wealthy while crushing middle class small business owners (some 160,000 restaurants may close).”

It’s DEMOCRATIC-led, brainiac, sheesh! Anyway, this kind of nonsense is why people like Newt write for conservative sites: No Pushback. And fact-checking? PFFFT.

Whatever COVID-19 policies Democrats enacted were a result of the lack of leadership and blatant dishonesty from Washington. Blue states acted quickly and imposed the necessary lockdowns.

Republicans, however, hid behind their constituents’ selfish “freedom” arguments and practically reveled in doing the opposite of everything the disease specialists suggested.

Red States’ COVID cases are surging now, and Republicans and the White House have abandoned any pretense of having a plan.

The Right’s fine-tuned art of dishonesty

As for “enriching the wealthy and crushing middle-class small business owners”, that is a direct result of the non-existent oversight of the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). According to SBA.gov:

The Paycheck Protection Program is a loan designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses to keep their workers on the payroll.

SBA will forgive loans if all employee retention criteria are met, and the funds are used for eligible expenses.

But according to Vox (my emphasis):

As written in the legislation, any business that’s classified as an accommodation or food service that has 500 or fewer employees at its individual locations, is eligible. It’s a loophole that, in theory, was meant to help franchisees and independent owners — think a local McDonald’s store owner — but as Bloomberg notes, the “language didn’t clarify whether individual locations must apply for the aid or whether corporate headquarters could start vacuuming up millions in relief funds.”

Some of the “small businesses” that “vacuumed up” money included Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Shake Shack, and the Los Angeles Lakers. In fact, the AP found that “… at least 94 companies that disclosed receiving aid since the program opened April 3 were publicly traded, some with market values well over $100 million.” True small businesses were left to fend for themselves, thus the money was gone before they could even get their applications processed.

Mnuchin’s Financial Free For All

Among others receiving PPP money:

A couple who purchased a $3.5 million estate, and a “ministry” that tried to buy a $3.7 million house in Disney World’s Golden Oak development. In addition, Small Business Trends reports:

Feds have seized a 2020 Lamborghini Huracan sports car, a Rolex Presidential watch, a 5.73-carat diamond ring, and a diamond bracelet — all purchased with PPP loan money. Other loot includes a Tesla, a 26-foot Pavati Wake Boat, a 33-foot Cruiser yacht, two Rolls-Royces, a Lamborghini Urus, a Kia Stinger, and a Ford F-350 pickup truck.

Authorities also seized cash hoards and froze bank accounts. They are in the process of trying to recover other assets.

Some defendants blew taxpayer money on wild spending sprees, including Las Vegas gambling, visits to strip clubs, and day-trading. In one case, a married couple was apprehended at JFK Airport purportedly attempting to flee the country after submitting 18 fraudulent applications — allegedly.

As a result of public outcry over the program’s fraudulent loans, Steve Mnuchin decided to conceal the names of businesses receiving PPP loans.

I’m not going to continue to point out the blatant lies in Gingrich’s opinion piece, I think you get the drift. Aside from tax breaks for the wealthy, starting wars, suppressing the vote, and denying people their rights, lying is one of the things Republicans excel at. Newt Gingrich’s opinions are about as important as something you’d scrape off of your shoe, and his character is no better.

Lindsey Graham Dangled Stimulus to Buy Votes

Winning is all that matters

Many writers have called out Lindsey Graham‘s post-McCain descent into the gutter, but it turns out he can go even lower. As Americans struggle to stay above water and small business owners lose their livelihoods, Graham is dangling stimulus money like pet treats to buy the Georgia Senate seats. Via The Hill:

lindsey grahamWhile he frequently antagonized Trump during the 2016 Republican primary, he has since become a loyal lap-dog for the outgoing president. In a surprise development, though, Graham does not necessarily agree with Trump on stimulus checks. He says that he will support the president’s hope for a larger check, but only if David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler win their senate runoff races.

Update: As I write this, Graham has voiced support for a stand-alone vote to raise stimulus to $2000.00, wonder how he’s being rewarded for that.

Now YOU’RE Paying For Corporate America’s Meals

When the Hell is Enough Enough?

Republicans fought long and hard to get the 35% statutory corporate tax rate lowered. They claimed it made U.S. companies less competitive than their foreign counterparts. At the same time, Republicans KNEW that corporate effective tax rates averaged much less.

In 2016, the Senate Budget Committee’s Ranking Member received a report from the GAO on effective tax rates. The GAO report, using tax years 2006-2012, found:

cash and cigarsThe statutory tax rate on net corporate income ranges from 15 to 35 percent, depending on the amount of income earned. For tax years 2008 to 2012, profitable large U.S. corporations paid, on average, U.S. federal income taxes amounting to about 14 percent of the pretax net income that they reported in their financial statements (for those entities included in their tax returns). When foreign and state and local income taxes are included, the average ETR across all of those years increases to just over 22 percent.

Insanity is… well, you know.

Even so, the GOP majority got their way in 2017, rewarding those big-money donors at the expense of American taxpayers. In 2019, a report from ITEP (Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy), Corporate Tax Avoidance in the First Year of the Trump Tax Law found:

TCJAWhen drafting the tax law, lawmakers could have eliminated special breaks and loopholes in the corporate tax to offset the cost of reducing the statutory rate. Instead, the new law introduced many new breaks and loopholes, though it eliminated some old ones.

Key Findings:

pigs at the troughThe 379 profitable corporations identified in this study paid an effective federal income tax rate of 11.3 percent on their 2018 income, slightly more than half the statutory 21 percent tax rate.

91 corporations did not pay federal income taxes on their 2018 U.S. income. These corporations include Amazon, Chevron, Halliburton and IBM. An ITEP study released in April 2019 examined 2018 Fortune 500 filings released to date and found 60 companies paid zero in federal income taxes. Now, all companies have released their 2018 financial filings, and this report reflects that.

Another 56 companies paid effective tax rates between 0 percent and 5 percent on their 2018 income. Their average effective tax rate was 2.2 percent.

Now, instead of the mere 27 companies paying no income taxes in 2015, we’ve jumped to at least 91 companies avoiding taxes in 2018.

Feeding Corporate Pigs

Fast Forward to 2020. A raging pandemic, over 300,000 U.S. deaths, huge job losses, people facing evictions or losing their homes, and THIS is what Trump and Republicans insisted be part of the latest COVID Relief Plan:

feeding corporate pigsCorporations will now be able to deduct 100% of the cost of “business meals”.

Paying 50% of their meals was obviously too burdensome, so Americans will pay even more now to prop up our so-called “self-made” corporate Americans. We already subsidize their

Stop Molly-Coddling the Obese Baby in the White House

Donald Trump refuses to admit that he lost the election and Republicans are molly-coddling him like theTrumpscreaming obese baby he is. To avoid the risk of losing favor, everybody is offering him emotional rattles to play with until he stops crying and starts packing his things.

santorumRick Santorum (yes, he’s still around):  “He’s just found out that he’s probably not going to be the president of the United States anymore. This is a very emotional time, give people space to work through this.”

fleischerAri Fleischer: The “decent thing to do is let the president himself take the time he wants to absorb this.”

CNN: Almost everyone around the President — members of his family, senior staffers and outside advisers — believe he will accept defeat and leave the White House in January even if he never publicly acknowledges Biden’s win.

mcenanyKayleigh McEnany, On whether Trump would attend Biden’s inauguration: “President Trump believes he will be President Trump, have a second term. I think the president will attend his own inauguration

mcconnell2Mitch McConnell: “Let’s not have any lectures, no lectures, about how the president should immediately, cheerfully accept preliminary election results.”

Laura Ingraham: “Now, losing, especially when you believe the process wasn’t fair, it’s a gut punch. And ingrahamI’m not conceding anything tonight, by the way, but, losing, if that’s what happens, it’s awful.

Gutfeld

Greg Gutless Gutfeld says of Trump: “He redefined the party, because he spoke for people that both the Democrats and the Republicans forgot about. So I think, I think we’re gonna have a HELL of a lot of fun. We’re gonna have two presidents! We’re gonna have two presidents!” (Right. Outa. His. Ass.)

HannitySean Hannity: “… every American should be angry, outraged and worried and concerned about what happened in the election and the lead-up to the election.”

(Trump talking points)

CarlsonPerpetually befuddled looking Tucker Carlson claims: the “outcome of our presidential election was seized from the hands of voters”. (This is especially ridiculous considering 2020 had the highest voter turnout percentage since 1900.)

Even Trump’s national security adviser, Robert O’Brien, can’t man-up enough to face his boss head-on. As the Daily Beast reported, O’Brien has:

O'Brien…pushed national security officials to publicly embrace the absurd Trump message that the election has not been certified and that there are still legal battles playing out across the country that could turn in the president’s favor.

“If you even mention Biden’s name… that’s a no-go, you’d be fired,” one national security official said.

This molly-coddling has gone on long enough. DONALD TRUMP LOST. It doesn’t matter if he cries, sucks his thumb, stomps his feet, or stays in bed hiding under the covers all day, HE STILL LOST. Somebody in that party of impotent cowards needs to find the brass to tell him it’s over.

Election Fraud Found Right Where You’d Expect It

I'm not leavingThe Trump Toadies are out in full force for their Master claiming to have evidence of voter fraud, or just simply feeling it in their gut:

Giuliani

Rudy Giuliani held a press conference claiming he had upwards of 50 witnesses to voter fraud. The first guy he called up to the podium happened to be a convicted child sex offender. (Pardon coming his way from Trump?)

GingrichNewt Gingrich went on Fox and made ridiculous claims: “First, you go out and the Democrats steal five or six states, and that’s what Republicans believe we’re watching. We think we have evidence of a lot of it.” Called it “…a left-wing power grab financed by people like George Soros, deeply laid in at the local level.” And declared: “I think that it is a corrupt, stolen election.” Will Newt EVER go away?

HannityCollege dropout turned Trump’s personal news host, Sean Hannity actually suggested a “do-over” in Pennsylvania. Civics must have been one of his toughest classes.

DobbsThen there’s poor, pathetic Lou Dobbs, whose mind seems to be failing him: “I believe corporate left-wing media, Biden and Harris have overstepped—PA ignoring court orders, the law and they claim victory! Huge suspect vote dumps for Biden in about a half dozen states, and clearly widespread voting fraud. There is no way that Biden… could get more legal votes than the greatest President ever!” Right. Outa. His. Ass.

So What is Election Fraud?

Electoral fraud, sometimes referred to as election fraud, election manipulation, voter fraud or vote rigging, involves illegal interference with the process of an election, either by increasing the vote share of a favored candidate, depressing the vote share of rival candidates, or both.”

Republicans are in search of election fraud, pointing everywhere but to their own back yard. They know who’s committing fraud, and they’re in full support of it.

♦ The California Republican Party… admitted responsibility for placing more than 50 deceptively labeled “official” drop boxes for mail-in ballots in Los Angeles, Fresno, and Orange Counties, an action that state officials said was illegal and could lead to voter fraud. ( NY Times, Oct. 2020 )

♦ Republican Gov. Greg Abbott “…forced Travis and Harris counties — two of the state’s most important Democratic strongholds — to shutter a number of drop-off sites they had already opened… and allowed “Texas counties to provide no more than one drop-off location for voters casting absentee ballots.” (Texas Tribune, Oct.  2020) Abbott had to be sued to do the right thing.

♦ Republicans in Wisconsin urged volunteers to contact Pennsylvania Trump voters “to get them to turn in ballots days after the election.” (Daily Beast, Nov. 2020)

♦ A Republican in California set up an illegal “vote center” in front of his business. (Voice of OC, Nov. 2020)

Then there’s this little nugget involving Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel herself, from the Minnesota Reformer:

Ronna McDanielMinnesota GOP Chairperson Jennifer Carnahan told party activists on Thursday night that she would help amplify claims of ballot fraud made by President Donald Trump and national Republican leaders, even though they are baseless assertions disputed by election officials of both parties.

Carnahan said that earlier Thursday, Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel asked her and other GOP officials around the country to recruit elected Republicans to parrot the false claims of fraud.

Also, as recapped by the Las Vegas Sun this month:

In December, The Topeka Capital-Journal exposed Kansas GOP Congressman Steve Watkins for using a UPS office in that city as his home address in order to register for a 2019 municipal election.

Wisconsin Republicans prevented postponement of this year’s primary election and extension of mail-in voting despite the COVID-19 pandemic, then rigged the system so that only five of 180 polling sites were open in Milwaukee. Black and Hispanic voters were disproportionately affected, but turned out in strong numbers in defiance of the GOP.

From the AP:

wohl and burkmanJacob Wohl, 22, and Jack Burkman, 54, each face four felony counts in Detroit, including conspiring to intimidate voters in violation of election law and using a computer to commit crimes, Attorney General Dana Nessel said.

The calls falsely warned residents in majority-Black Detroit and cities in at least four other states that if they vote by mail in the Nov. 3 election they could be subjected to arrest, debt collection and forced vaccination, Nessel said.

Maybe the most important support FOR election fraud came from the Republican Senate, which refused to advance bi-partisan election security bills ahead of the 2020 elections. They argued among other things, it would be imposing on states’ rights. Even so, the party is currently trying to overturn state legislators’ voting changes made due to the pandemic.

Mitch McConnell, as CBS reported in 2019  “…objected to legislation that would have required campaigns and candidates to report offers of election-related aid from foreign governments.”

THESE are all instances of election fraud, and it is Republicans committing it.

Because Republicans know: When voters are able to vote unhindered, they turn out, and when they turn out, Republicans lose.

Roger Stone Won’t Be Dressing as an Inmate… Yet

Stone Cold Nuts

There’s never been a shortage of crackpots or clowns in Donald Trump’s orbit.

jones pierson“Spokesperson” Katrina Pierson and her YUGE bullet necklace, Alex Jones‘ ridiculous conspiracy theories, and Jerry Falwell Jr. packing heat in case AOC comes for his cows. Crazy just oozes from the Right Wing. Then there’s Roger Stone.

The name Roger Stone was probably unknown to most people before he landed in Robert Mueller’s crosshairs. A long-time Republican operative, Roger Stone’s been called everything from a “Practitioner of political dark arts” to “Washington’s Sleaziest Political Operator “. My personal favorite though is Charles Pierce‘s description:

“Roger Stone is the most elegant maître d’ the American political sewer ever has had.”

Stone more hat than cattle

While Stone fancies himself a major political player, Slate’s Jacob Weisberg suggests he might be more hat than cattle:

It became clear to me … that Stone was less power player than con artist. He cultivated a reputation for being a bad boy, playing dirty tricks and crossing ethical lines. In practice, so far as I could tell, he was mostly shaking down his clients, who paid him a lot of money based on the largely false impression that he had real influence. He was a bluffer, implying he advised people he didn’t, and a leaker, ratting out his allies in pursuit of his own agenda.

Trump once called him “a stone-cold loser,” who “always takes credit for things he never did.”

Stone “Style”

Roger Stone is also known for his flamboyant “style”, as Scott Christian wrote in a 2017 Esquire piece

Stone fancies himself something of a dandy, serving as men’s fashion editor for the conservative political website The Daily Caller (yes, you read that right) and running a fashion blog called Stone on Style.
… Your source for sartorial tips, courtesy of a man who dressed for Trump’s inauguration in an outfit stolen from a cartoon villain who ties his victims to train tracks.

Matt Labash of The Weekly Standard described Stone this way:

… a dandy by disposition who boasts of having not bought off-the-rack since he was 17–he’s now 56…

Not buying “off the rack” is an understatement. Stone’s “style” is more like a patient with multiple personality disorder burglarizing a costume shop.

He has dressed as:

Roger Stone costumes

and this character, which frankly had me stymied for a bit; I just couldn’t place the face:

Roger Stone characters

And then it hit me …

EDITH HEAD!

He’s channeling Edith Head!

Stone’s so-called “style” has been a source of personal amusement over the years.

Roger Stone's "style"

The idea of him living in the same drab stripes as his fellow “political sewer dwellers” some day, well there’s no better word for it than KARMA.

Bezos Asked Michael Bloomberg To Run

What Arrogance!

Jeff Bezos asked Michael Bloomberg to run for President in February. According to Vox:

bezos asked bloomberg to run in februarySometime after Amazon pulled the plug on plans for a New York City headquarters in February of this year, the city’s former mayor Mike Bloomberg received a call from a top company executive.

It wasn’t just any Amazon executive — it was Jeff Bezos, the company’s founder and CEO and the world’s richest man.

Bezos was calling with a question for his fellow billionaire and media mogul: Would Bloomberg consider entering the 2020 presidential race?

Bloomberg told Bezos no at the time, according to a person briefed on the phone conversation.

But he had a question of his own for Amazon’s CEO: Would Bezos reconsider his decision to cancel plans for an Amazon headquarters — dubbed HQ2 — in New York City? Bezos’s response matched Bloomberg’s — he wouldn’t.

Now Michael  Bloomberg is running. As a Democrat. This is a perfect example of why voters are so cynical about politics. The Rich feel they’re entitled to buy control of the country if necessary. Bloomberg will self-fund his campaign, which puts all other  Democratic candidates at a huge disadvantage.

His rationale for running is that Joe Biden’s campaign was struggling financially. Instead of putting his money behind Biden, the Mayor’s over-blown sense of self says the country needs him. We don’t.

Like Trump, Michael Bloomberg IS Wall Street

Michael Bloomberg, though a champion for certain Democratic causes, is no Democrat. His views on women and minorities are enough in themselves to reject him. Then there’s his defense of Wall Street’s business as usual. In September, Bloomberg Magazine boohooed the mere $23 million Goldman Sachs Chief Executive Officer David Solomon was paid last year. It seems his predecessor earned three times that much in 2007. In fact, they report:

Investment bankers had their pay reduced by about a third, with a mid-level banker now getting $600,000 to $950,000, Bell said. Compensation for managing directors has fallen roughly 30%, to an average of $1.5 million to $2 million.

Awww… at the same time the article states, and I quote, “…pay was never as significant for the [bank] branch staff, [You know- the “little people”] but it’s been holding up too, rising along with average wages.”

As Slate’s Matt put it:

When the question is gigantic sodas, Bloomberg sees exploited marks and decides to rescue them from themselves. But when the question is financial products, Bloomberg sides with the con artists and says the marks are only suffering because they’re not smart enough.

Michael Bloomberg’s entry into the Democratic race could blow everything up. If voters have to choose between two oversized egos, they may just keep the one we’ve got. Bernie voters probably won’t vote at all, making Bloomberg the spoiler, as he admitted.

The Mayor’s autocratic, my-way-or-the-highway, style, coupled with his disdain for women and minorities should make his candidacy a non-starter. Democrats need to stand up to this attempted hijacking of our primary.

WILL THEY?
